Professional Activity Days 2023-2024

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) is pleased to provide parents and guardians with details on the seven (7) planned Professional Activity (PA) Days for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year in accordance with a new regulation on School Year Calendars and Professional Activity Days made by the Ministry of Education. We invite our parents to review the details in the chart below for our upcoming NPSC Professional Activity Day staff learning activities which will include three (3) PA Days focused on the Provincial education priorities of: Literacy & Mathematics; Curriculum Implementation; Student Well-being, School Safety and Violence Prevention. The PA Day descriptions provide parents details on the topics and learning/training activities that staff will be engaged in to support your child’s learning and achievement. We look forward to providing our parents with regular updates on our planned PA Day activities. Details for each PA Day will be shared at least fourteen (14) days in advance of each scheduled date throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

Please note:
 Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) re-certification training for Educational Assistants (EAs), Social Workers (SW’s), Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Communication Disorders Assistants (CDAs), Indigenous Graduation Coach, & Behaviour Management Consultant (BMC) will be held on September 1st, 2023. Full day BMS certification training will take place for all new EA’s. Further details will be provided for these individuals through board email. Staff will also engage in School Safety and Violent Incident Prevention (Vector Solutions) training in the areas of Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training in Four Steps, Student Safety and Violent Incident Reporting, Anti Sex Trafficking, and Cyber Security.

De-streaming

Secondary teachers will continue to deepen their knowledge and understanding around the core principles of de-streaming with a focus on assessment and evaluation. Teachers will work collaboratively on the development of effective, transparent, and equitable assessment and evaluation practices that are connected to Growing Success and support all students to reach their full potential.  Through this professional learning day, teachers will also have the opportunity to deepening their understanding around curriculum expectations and how this supports the assessment and evaluation process.

Learning sessions topics include, Overcoming Communication Barriers in ASD, Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders, Challenging Behaviours, Supporting Students with Autism, Introduction to ABA, and Using ABA to Support Students.

School communities will gather to learn, discuss, and plan collaboratively to support student learning through their School Achievement Plans, which will include a focus on literacy and numeracy. Teacher professional learning will also focus on the revised Family Life Education curriculum. This professional activity day will be school-based and co-facilitated by school administrators and members of the NPSC curriculum team.
