The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) participated in the annual Terry Fox Run through their own school events across the region this September, raising funds and awareness to fight against cancer.

NPSC estimates the board’s schools raised $15,500 during this year’s campaign, with St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School raising a total of $10,785.

“On behalf of our Board, we continue to express our sincere gratitude for the continued generosity of our NPSC Catholic School communities in raising a remarkable amount of funds for the Terry Fox Foundation, to support cancer research. Over the years, our NPSC Catholic schools have been truly inspired by the life of Terry Fox and share his vision - a world without cancer.” shares Paula Mann, NPSC Director of Education.

St. Theresa Vice Principal, Rhonda Lindeman, incentivized her students’ activity with the chance to pour a bucket of water on her and one of the school’s custodians, Steven Fournier, if the school achieved its fundraising goal of $7000. The students surpassed their goal on October 3, and the two staff members were dunked in cold water by the school’s highest fundraisers.

The top three fundraising teams for St. Theresa were comprised of (pictured above L-R, in between Rhonda and Steven): Clara Klose, Samantha Arruda, Kaeden Berghamer, Sydney Brown, (front row, holding the sign): Milo Klose, Nora Klose, Annie Klose.

NPSC has been proud to support the Terry Fox Foundation through continued participation in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run campaigns every year, with the total funds raised to date eclipsing approximately $170,000, with St. Theresa in particular raising over $100,000 as a school community over time.

"We are really proud of our school community for surpassing our annual goal, once again,” said Lindeman. “I could not believe that we’ve surpassed $100,000 as a school. We couldn’t have done it without the help of so many students, staff, and parents these past several years. Together, we remember Terry.”

The fundraising efforts of NPSC students, staff, families and wider community have been inspired by the tremendous courage and determination of Terry Fox and reflect the Board’s commitment as Catholic communities to serve a cause that has touched so many lives.
