The Board of Trustees of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Leo de Jourdan as Trustee for the municipality of North Bay.

Mr. de Jourdan holds extensive experience as a Catholic Trustee, serving in the role for a total of 10 years.  He first served as Trustee with NPSC from 1998-2003, then from 2013-2014, and from 2018-2022. During his tenure, Mr. de Jourdan has served on a variety of statutory Board committees such as the Special Education Advisory Committee and Audit Committee.  In addition to this cumulative experience as a Trustee, Mr. de Jourdan has also served as Chair of the Board at NPSC for two consecutive years in the Board’s most recent term, from 2020-2022.

Mr. de Jourdan fills a vacancy left by the retirement of Frank O’Hagan on November 28, 2022.  His term will begin on December 12, 2022 and continue until the end of the current term of the Board on November 14, 2026.  The Board wishes to extend prayerful best wishes to Mr. O’Hagan and appreciation for his service.

“We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Leo de Jourdan as a member of our Board of Trustees”, says Shawn Fitzsimmons, Chair of the Board.  “His experience, qualifications and commitment to Catholic Education will continue to serve our Board well as we focus on supporting our students through our strategic ENDS, centered on Catholic Faith, student achievement, well-being, equity and innovation”, he adds.

At its regular Board meeting held on November 29, 2022, the Board agreed to fill the vacancy by appointment in accordance with section 221(1)(a) of the Education Act.  It confirmed Mr. de Jourdan’s appointment at its Special meeting on December 12, 2022.

Mr. de Jourdan was the runner-up for Trustee for the North Bay area in the recent municipal election held on October 24, 2022.  In filling the vacancy, the Board felt it was important to acknowledge the valued role of the electorate and their wishes.  The Board also considered Mr. de Jourdan’s extensive experience as a Catholic school Board Trustee in its deliberations.  The Board is confident that this appointment serves the best interests of the Catholic constituents of North Bay.

The Board of Trustees and Senior Administration look forward to working with Mr. de Jourdan for the remainder of the four-year Board term.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board serves approximately 3,000 students in 11 elementary schools across North Bay, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Powassan and Callander and at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School in North Bay.
