Anna Marie Bitonti, Director of Education for the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC), has announced her intention to retire in the spring of 2022, after a 37-year career in education.  She was appointed as Director of Education in 2002.

Ms. Bitonti has remained steadfast in her focus on student success and supporting all students in reaching their full potential.  During her tenure, NPSC has experienced the expansion of programing and services in support of student achievement and well-being, the enhancement and modernizing of school facilities, a culture of ongoing professional learning and development, and the establishment and nurturing of valued community partnerships.  She deeply values the contribution of her colleagues and staff, and always considers the development of their skills and capacities as a key outcome of her Catholic leadership vision.

Ms. Bitonti has served on various bodies, including as Chair of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE), Chair of the English Catholic Council of Ontario Directors of Education (ECCODE), as well as various regional, provincial and Ministry advisory committees.  In 2019, she was recognized by the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association with the Distinguished Leadership Award.

"It has been a privilege to witness daily faith in action and an honour to work with NPSC’s team of competent and compassionate educators, support staff, school administrators, system leaders, and parents, who, every school year, support the achievement and well-being of our students, and encourage them to give their best”, says Anna Marie Bitonti, Director of Education. "With the dedication of this outstanding and innovative board-wide team, and the ongoing future-focused leadership of our Board of Trustees and Senior Administrators, NPSC is well poised to continue to influence and shape the future of Catholic education in our district and our province.”

"Anna Marie Bitonti leaves the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board with an impeccable record of service as an educator, Senior Administrator and Director of Education.  Her dedication to Catholic education, over many years, is well known throughout the province and her reputation as a strong leader who has consistently exercised clear vision and sound judgement, is highly respected in all North Bay and district schools and Board offices”, says Leo de Jourdan, Board Chair. "Ms. Bitonti leaves a legacy that sees a strong set of sound, forward-looking policies that are very much alive in our classrooms where all students are provided the best possible educational experience.  At the same time, she has always worked closely with the trustees in setting priorities and allocating resources that respect the investment of ratepayers and supporters of Catholic education. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank Anna Marie for her many years of dedication and we congratulate her as she completes a highly successful career.  We extend our best wishes for good health and happiness in her retirement years.”

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board will begin the recruitment process and Ms. Bitonti’s official last day in the role will be finalized once a selection has been made to ensure a smooth transition.
