International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2024
Posted on 03/21/2024
March 21 is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. As a collaborative partnership between all local school boards, the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre, the North Bay Local Immigration Partnership, Canadore College and Nipissing University observes this significant day together. This partnership recognizes the work and contributions that local students and community members have made this past year toward eliminating racial discrimination. The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) joins our local partners in recognizing the "Students Who Make a Difference” in our community.
Students were nominated by their respective school communities and based on the following criteria:
• Make a positive impact on their school;
• Contribute to making their community more inclusive; and,
• Share their time to help a fellow student.
As such, we are very excited and incredibly proud to congratulate and celebrate the following NPSC "Students Who Make A Difference" recipients for the 2023-2024 school year:
Sasha Hyman (Our Lady of Sorrows)
Benjamin Spilchuk (St. Hubert)
Burton Barker (St. Joseph–Scollard Hall)

We are also happy to announce that Sean Doucette in Grade 3 at Mother St. Bride was selected as the recipient of the anti-racism book reflection contest! Students across our district were invited to participate in a book reflection activity to encourage thoughtful reflections that promote empathy and understanding based on the book by Jody Nyasha titled, Viola Desmond Won’t Be Budged. We extend warm congratulations to Sean!
