On Tuesday December 4, 2018, the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board held it’s inaugural meeting for the 2018-2022 term.  The meeting began with an Inaugural Mass, celebrated with Father Francis Ezenezi, and included a beautiful Commissioning and Renewal of Commitment ceremony.

The board appointed by acclamation, Judy Manitowabi and Barbara McCool as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively.  Judy Manitowabi was first elected to the Board as a Trustee in 2003.  She has served as Vice-Chair between January 2006 and November 2007 and between December 2012 and November 2015, and is currently the Chair of the Board’s First Nations Advisory Committee.  Barbara McCool has served as Trustee with the Board since 1977.  She was Chair of the Board from 1999-2000, from 2002-2004, and again between 2009 and November 2018, and was previously involved as both member and Chair of the NPSC Special Education Advisory Committee for many years.

Trustee Leo de Jourdan (North Bay) who was acclaimed, was welcomed to the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. Returning to the Board for another term were incumbent Trustees Jacques Bégin (East and South of the City of North Bay), Shawn Fitzsimmons (North Bay), Linda Jamieson (North Bay) and John Willemsen (West Nipissing).  Student Trustee 2018-2019, Kiley George, also participated in the Inaugural Mass and meeting.

“Good Governance is the key to a progressive board, and the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board will continue to follow the principles of policy governance. It is imperative that we embrace our leadership roles in our Catholic community both locally and provincially, that we focus on results to achieve positive outcomes, and continue to be fiscally responsible as Catholic School Board trustees.”  said Judy Manitowabi, Chair.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board serves approximately 2900 students in 11 elementary schools across North Bay, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Powassan and Callander, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School and St. Joseph Adult Education campus, in North Bay.
