As caring adults in students’ lives, we can help young people by being a steady calming influence, providing developmentally-appropriate and factual information about our local situation, and helping students to feel some level of control. Dear Parents, I am writing to you today exactly two weeks since our government declared a State of Emergency in the province. I know this period has not been easy for you or your children, especially as the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak begin to have increasing effects on your day-to-day lives and livelihoods.

Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce have announced that all schools in Ontario will be closed until at least May 4, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will communicate more information, as it becomes available.

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) and the Government of Ontario reached a tentative collective agreement. As a result, OECTA has suspended all strike activity pending ratification of the agreement.

Students, parents and educators are invited to share their voice by taking part in a survey developed by the Ministry of Education. The survey will be used to gather information about bullying to better understand this complex issue and to help support inclusion. A reminder that all NPSC schools will remain open and operating as usual on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. NPSC staff are not members of The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and will not be participating in the withdrawal of services.
