June is National Indigenous History Month, a time for us to deepen our understanding and appreciation of the rich histories, diverse cultures, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.
Not only is Indigenous history celebrated throughout the month, but June 21 is also National Indigenous Peoples Day. This day coincides with the summer solstice, a time of spiritual significance for many Indigenous cultures. On this day, we join in celebration and gratitude, recognizing the unique heritage and innovative achievements of Indigenous Peoples.
At the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC), we are committed to walking together in truth and reconciliation. Throughout the month, our Catholic schools will engage in meaningful learning experiences that honour Indigenous voices, celebrate cultural traditions, and reflect on the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.
We look forward to sharing inspiring stories and highlights from across NPSC as our students and staff participate in a variety of activities throughout the month that foster respect, understanding, and reconciliation.
