Labour Relations Update #11- February 13, 2020

OECTA Province - Wide Job Action

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Partners,

As you may know, on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) announced that its teachers will join education workers across Ontario in a one-day, full withdrawal of services on Friday, February 21, 2020.

At the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC), OECTA represents all elementary, secondary and occasional teachers.

As a result, classes will be canceled at all NPSC schools (elementary and secondary) on Friday, February 21, 2020.  Schools will re-open to students on Monday, February, 24, 2020.

Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to begin making alternate arrangements for children prior to the one-day strike.

The following will be cancelled if the one-day strike occurs on Friday, February 21, 2020: all field trips, all sports and extra-curricular activities and practices, scheduled for before and after school hours.

All childcare including before-and-after school childcare programs and community use will continue to operate and remain open.  Please contact your school’s provider directly with any questions or concerns.

NPSC will provide parents and guardians with updates and information as it becomes available through board and school websites (https://www.npsc.ca/news/labour_relations_updates), and Facebook (/npscdsb) and Twitter (/npsc_schools).

We very much appreciate your understanding and thank you for your ongoing commitment to Catholic education. We continue to pray and remain hopeful that a fair and respectful resolution at the central provincial bargaining table will be reached soon.

If you have any additional questions, please contact your school principal.

Sincerely,

Anna Marie Bitonti

Director of Education
