FIF 1DC - Immersion (Academic)
Prerequisite: Minimum of 3800 hours of instruction in elementary French Immersion, or equivalent
This
course provides opportunities for students to speak and interact in
French independently in a variety of real-life and personally relevant
contexts. Students will develop their ability to communicate in French
with confidence by using language - learning strategies introduced in
the elementary French Immersion program. Students will enhance their
knowledge of the language through the study of media texts, short
stories and other authentic texts and learning opportunities. They will
also continue to increase their understanding and appreciation of
diverse French-speaking communities and to develop the skills necessary
to become life-long language learners. This course also allows students
to listen actively and critically in order to understand and learn in
the light of gospel values.
HRE 1OF Religious Education French Immersion - Open
This
course is an introduction to recognizing God’s Self-Revelation in
Scripture and Church Tradition in order to be able to apply the learned
values to a teenager’s personal life. This course also helps students
develop attitudes and a value founded on Catholic social
teaching and promotes social responsibility and human solidarity. The
Language of Instruction in this course is French. Students are expected
to express themselves in French at all times, both orally and in
writing.
CGC 1DF Geography of Canada - Academic French Immersion
This
course draws on a variety of frameworks, such as the ecozone framework,
and principles of physical, human, and economic geography, to explore
Canada’s distinct and evolving character. Students will investigate the
interconnections among the landforms, climate, soils, plants, animals,
and human activities in Canadian ecozones to develop geographic
knowledge and skills that contribute to an understanding of Canada’s
diversity and its role in the world. The concept of stewarding of God’s
creation will be examined throughout the course. The Language of
Instruction in this course is French. Students are expected to express
themselves in French at all times, both orally and in writing.
BTT 1OF Information & Communication Technology French Immersion - Open
This
course introduces students to information and communication technology
in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy
skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society.
Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop
publishing, presentation software, and website design skills. Throughout
the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective
electronic research and communication skills, and current issues related
to the impact of information and communication technology. This course
helps students to meet the Ontario Catholic Graduation Expectations by
using and integrating Catholic faith tradition in the analysis of
business, technology and information systems to enhance the quality of
life. The Language of Instruction in this course is French. Students are
expected to express themselves in French at all times, both orally and
in writing.
AVI 1OF Visual Arts - Open - French
This
course offers an overview of visual arts as a foundation for further
study. Students will become familiar with the elements and principles of
design and the expressive qualities of various materials through
working with a range of materials, processes, techniques, and styles.
They will learn and use methods of analysis and criticism and will study
the characteristics of particular historical art periods and a
selection of Canadian art and the art of other cultures. This course
enables each person to become a collaborative contributor who develops
one’s God-given potential and makes a meaningful contribution to
society. The Language of Instruction in this course is French. Students
are expected to express themselves in French at all times, both orally
and in writing.
PPL1OF French Immersion - Healthy Active Living Education Coed – Open
This
course emphasizes students’ daily participation in a variety of
physical activities that promote lifelong health active living. Students
will learn bio-mechanics, safety, and physical competence strategies.
They will investigate many issues related to tobacco, alcohol substance
use and abuse. They will be given the opportunity to be trained and
receive their C.P.R. certification if a mark of 80% is attained. This
course helps students to write, speak, listen honestly, and respond in
light of the gospel values. The Language of Instruction in this course
is French. Students are expected to express themselves in French at all
times, both orally and in writing.
Grade 10
FIF 2DC French Immersion - Academic
Prerequisite: French Immersion Grade 9, Academic
This
course provides students with extensive opportunities to communicate,
interact, and think critically and creatively in French. Students will
use a variety of language-learning strategies in listening, speaking,
reading, and writing, and will respond to and interact with print, oral,
visual, and electronic texts. Students will develop their knowledge of
the French language through the study of contemporary French literature
and a variety of non-fictions texts.. They will also continue to
increase their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking
communities and to develop the skills necessary to become life-long
language learners. This course also allows students to listen actively
and critically in order to understand and learn in light of gospel
values.
HRE 2OF Religious Education French Immersion
Prerequisite: FIF 1DC
An
investigation into how the Church, through her Moral Teachings and
Sacramental Life, can guide a teenager in being a true disciple of
Jesus. This course also helps students develop attitudes and values
founded on Catholic social teaching and promote social responsibility
and human solidarity. The Language of Instruction in this course is
French. Students are expected to express themselves in French at all
times, both orally and in writing.
CHC 2DF Canadian History in the 20th Century French Immersion
Prerequisite: FIF 1DC
This
course explores Canadian participation in global events and traces our
development as a country through the changes in population, economy and
technology. Students will analyze the elements that constitute Canadian
identity, learn the stories of both individuals and communities, and
study the evolution of political and social structures. Students will
learn about differing interpretations of the past, and will come to
understand the importance in historical studies of chronology and cause -
and - effect relationships. They will also learn to develop and support
a thesis, conduct research and analysis and effectively communicate the
results of their inquiries. This course helps students to meet Ontario
Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each person to become a
reflective and creative thinker who examines, evaluates and applies
knowledge of interdependent systems (physical, political, ethical,
socio-economic and ecological) for the development of a just and
compassionate society. The Language of Instruction in this course is

times, both orally and in writing.
CHV 2OF French Immersion Civics and Citizenship- Open - 0.5 Credit
Prerequisite: FIF 1DC
This
course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an
active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of
civic importance such as healthy schools, community planning,
environmental responsibility, and the influence of social media, while
developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of
political processes in the local, national, and/or global community.
Students will apply the concepts of political thinking and the political
inquiry process to investigate, and express informed opinions about, a
range of political issues and developments that are both of significance
in today’s world and of personal interest to them. This course helps
students to meet Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each
person to become a responsible citizen who gives witness to Catholic
social teaching by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human
life.
GLC 2OF French Immersion Career Studies - Open - 0.5 Credit
Prerequisite: FIF 1DC
This
course teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals for
future learning, work, and community involvement. Students will assess
their interests, skills, and characteristics and investigate current
economic and workplace trends, work opportunities, and ways to search
for work. The course explores postsecondary learning and career options,
prepares students for managing work and life transitions, and helps
students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan.
This course helps students to meet Ontario Catholic Graduate
Expectations by enabling each person to become a collaborative
contributor who applies skills for employability, self-employment and
entrepreneurship relative to Christian vocation.
Grade 11
HRT 3MF World Religions: Beliefs, Issues & Religious Traditions - University/College – French Immersion
Prerequisite: FIF 2DC
This
course introduces students to the responses of the world’s great
religions to questions concerning the spiritual dimension of human
experience. Students will explore the language of religious discourse,
develop their awareness of the role of religion in human culture,
overcome misconceptions about other religious traditions and strengthen
their personal search for answers to life’s meaning. This course also
teaches students to respect and affirm the diversity and interdependence
of the world’s peoples and cultures. This course helps students
continue their journeys to become self-directed, responsible, life-long
learners by providing opportunities to develop and effectively apply
communication, decision-making, problems-solving, and time and resource
management skills. The Language of Instruction in this course is French.

FIF 3UC French Immersion - University
Prerequisite: French Immersion FIF 2DC
This
course provides opportunities for students to consolidate the
communication skills required to speak and interact with increasing
confidence and accuracy in French in a variety of academic and social
contexts. Students will apply language-learning strategies while
exploring a variety of concrete and abstract topics, and will increase
their knowledge of the language through the study of French literature
from around the world. They will also continue to deepen their
understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities
and to develop the skills necessary to become life-long language
learners. This course also allows students to listen actively and
critically in order to understand and learn in light of gospel values.
Grade 12
HRE 4MR and HRE 4MF French Immersion Religious Education: Church and Culture - University/College
This
course, designed for the university level student, is directed toward
the clear identification of Catholic moral principles and their concrete
application in the lives and relationships of students. While grounded
in Revelation, the course will examine the contributions of Philosophy
and the sciences to a Catholic understanding of ethics and moral living.
Students will explore their own ethical and moral stance through an
examination of topics such as justice and peace, freedom, reconciliation
and interpersonal relationships in order to prepare senior students for
the lifelong task of discerning what is good while growing in their
ability to live accordingly as moral persons. Note: Students who have
passed HRT3MR and/or HRE4MR shall not be allowed to take HRF3OR and/or
HRE4OR. The Language of Instruction in this course is French. Students
are expected to express themselves in French at all times, both orally
and in writing.
FIF 4UC French Immersion - University
Prerequisite: FIF 3UC
This
course provides students with extensive opportunities to communicate,
interact, and think critically and creatively in French. Students will
consolidate language-learning strategies and apply them while
communicating about concrete and abstract topics, and will independently
respond to and interact with a variety of oral and written texts.
During their grade 12 year, students will have the opportunity to take
the DELF exam, an internationally recognized second language proficiency
test. They will also continue to enrich their understanding and
appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities and to develop the
skills necessary to become life-long language learners. This course also
allows students to listen actively and critically in order to
understand and learn in light of gospel values.
