Early French Immersion

Beginning in Kindergarten, the Early French Immersion program is designed to provide non-French speaking families, with non-French speaking children, authentic learning opportunities to attain a high level of confidence, fluency and proficiency in the French language by the end of their secondary school studies.

The Early French immersion program provides the most minutes of instruction in the second language giving language learners the most opportunities to be immersed in the language. The students will be learning in French, not only about French. Additionally, the program fosters favorable attitudes towards the French language, its speakers and their culture. French immersion students must accumulate a minimum of 3800 hours of instruction by the end of grade 8.

The model we generally use is as follows:

Grade Instruction
Kindergarten 50% French Instruction
Grade 1 & 2 90% French Instruction
Grade 3 - 6 70% French Instruction
Grade 7 & 8 50% French Instruction
