What I Have Learned From Kids! - Supporting Self-Regulation, Resiliency and Positive Mental Health in Children and Adolescents with Trish Tessier, MA, RP

Date
: Monday, April 17, 2023
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Location: St. Joseph-Scollard Hall CSS (Bishop Carter Auditorium)
Sponsored by the NPSC Parent Involvement Committee

The goal of this session is to explore what the evidence tells us about supporting children’s self-regulation and resiliency across their development and why it is important to focus our energy as caregivers on promoting connection, emotional literacy and overall positive mental health. We hope to share some new insights and strategies for parents as they navigate building healthy and connected relationships with their children as an important protective factor for good mental health and a good baseline for noticing and intervening early when your child may not be feeling well.

About Trish Tessier, MA, RP:

Trish started her career 23 years ago working in front-line addictions in the heart of downtown Toronto for adults involved in the criminal justice system as a result of their substance abuse. Since that time, she has enjoyed a rich career that has taught her many valuable lessons about the human spirit, the power of relationship and the resilience that is visible in even the darkest of experiences.

In her current role as Manager of Student Support Services & Mental Health Lead for the Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic School Board she has been honoured to support our community in mental health prevention, promotion and intervention since 2014. As a proud leader of our growing mental health team of Social Workers and our School Mental Teacher, Trish supports their tireless work of supporting our students on their learning journey.

Trish brings to her role a vast amount of education and experience including a Masters degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University.  Prior to joining the education sector,  she gained experience working in the field of mental health and addiction with adults, youth and families in the Southern Ontario and Simcoe County areas. This combination of experience and education set the stage for further exploration of her passion for helping people on their journey of change with respect to improving their well-being and overall mental health.

Trish is a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the Ontario College of Psychotherapists, a proud mother to two girls and wife to a very supportive and loving husband of over 20 years. She has also spent over 10 years teaching mental health and addictions at the post-secondary level and is currently an adjunct instructor at Nipissing University.
