Positive Improvement Trend Keeps Moving NPSC Students Ahead

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the results of the 2013-2014 EQAO Grade 9 Mathematics Assessment and Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.  Increases were experienced in both Grade 9 Applied and Academic Mathematics, as well as an increase in Grade 10 Literacy.  

In Grade 9 Academic Mathematics, 86 per cent of students achieved at or above the provincial standard, up seven per cent from last year, and in Grade 9 Applied Mathematics, 59 per cent of students performed at or above the provincial standard, up eighteen per cent from last year.  Results in both academic and applied math indicate the best results over a five year trend to date and are above the 2013-2014 provincial average.  In Grade 10 Literacy, 79 per cent of students performed at or above the provincial standard, up two per cent from last year. 

Following a full-day launch of the school and system improvement planning process held on September 22, school and system staff will be directly involved in carefully reviewing provincial assessments, programming, and contextual and attitudinal data to inform the development and implementation of the school and Board improvement plans, at both elementary and secondary levels.  

Our teachers and principals will continue to work collaboratively within and across panels to deepen their learning and mobilize effective instructional practices in order to close the learning gap for all students K-12.  Our congratulations and appreciation are extended to all students, staff and community partners.
